Just in Time for the End of Scary Movie Season...

Halloween may be over, but the candy is half price and scary movie season isn’t quite done. This year, I've watched Obsession, Back Rooms, It's What's Inside, The Devils's Hour, and Weapons (for the second time). I'm not a fan of slashers, but I do love a quirky, psychological thriller-ish horror (and believe it or not, the violence doesn't bother me. It's so unbelievable that I can stomach it). I'm a fan of Ira Levin, Shirley Jackson, Henry James, and, more recently, Grady Hendrix's books. I like a little spooky that makes me think!

So it feels like the right time to show everybody the cover for 21 GUNS, Book 10 in my Maizie Albright Star Detective Romantic Comedy Mystery series. (Underlining Rom-Com Mystery because it's not a horror story. Just set at a horror movie shoot). My VIP Readers got the first look on National Horror Movie Day, and now it’s your turn.

Meet the Cover

I love how my cover designer, James at GoOnWrite.com, perfectly captured Maizie's vibe in this book. When we worked on designing these covers, I wanted to keep her California sunglasses motif, but rose-colored to symbolize how she views the world. Her struggle with her chosen profession while remaining a cockeyed optimist hits hard in this novel. Despite all that therapy, does she really know who she is? I wonder...

And then there's the setting on the cover. If you’ve read the series, you know Maizie is very comfortable in front of a camera. A spooky farmhouse is another matter.

What 21 GUNS, Maizie Albright Star Detective, A Romantic Comedy Mystery Novel, Is About

21 GUNS is set at the location shoot of a horror movie, Specters 3, in Black Pine, Georgia. A real gun has turned up among the prop weapons, and producer Michael Meyers (not that one, the other one) wants it found before the press finds out.

It’s Maizie’s first case as lead detective. Nash has promised to just drive. But does he have ulterior motives (Other than the obvious)?

There’s a farmhouse everyone swears is cursed, a prop assistant’s “accident” that may not be an accident, and a very judgmental crow named Poe. It’s Clue meets Scream with a side of romance.

21 GUNS releases in ebook on Tuesday, June 8, 2027. Let Maizie's chills cool you down as the heat of summer hits. Grab the popcorn, and maybe leave the lights on.
